  7. The Internet is a critical resource for scientific research on the brain.
  8. I have recently established a public library of brain signals for the use of
  9. scientists and physicians.  This library contains signals such as EEGs, 
  10. EKGs, eye movements, and single brain cell recordings.  The library is 
  11. useful both as a repository of standard diagnostic examples and as a source 
  12. of biological signals for use by computer simulations and analysis of 
  13. complex neural signals.

  15. I have established a mailing list which allows the participants to discuss 
  16. such topics as data formats, data validity, editorial review of data, 
  17. and appropriate attribution of data sources.  A database of users and 
  18. contributors is under development which will allow researchers and 
  19. clinicians to search for others with similar interests for the purpose of
  20. facilitating collaborations.

  22. All of this is possible only because of the availability of the resources 
  23. of the Internet and because of the community attitude of sharing information 
  24. and software to increase the quality of everyone's contributions.

  26. The explosive growth of the Internet and the high 
  27. quality of the information and software available on it are the best 
  28. arguments for support of the Internet.  The US and other governments should 
  29. continue to increase their efforts to make public information and data 
  30. available on the Internet.  This will increase the availablity of public 
  31. data while reducing the cost of it distribution.
